What’s Next – Spring 2025

Many thanks to those of you who have contacted me about subscriptions. I really appreciate the support.

I wanted to quickly run over the priorities for the next couple of months so that you know where the site is heading as we steadily work towards the summer.

This is not the full extent of work over the next 6 months but really just to give you an idea of priorities.

More Projects and Assignments

I have been working quite a bit on the back end systems and this has slowed down my ability to add more projects and assignments.

Over the coming weeks I will be turning back towards adding more content and this will include a selection of new projects and assignments to complement those that are already there.

This includes:

  1. Finishing the addition of the Time2Code projects
  2. Adding some new ‘beginners’ projects to allow students to repeatedly practice basic programming
  3. Adding some Edexcel style questions to support schools that are using that exam board
  4. Hopefully some additional ‘core’ projects

I have plans to keep adding more projects as we go of course. At 200, there are already quite a lot, however I want to add a lot more. I’d quite like to add a core skills practice course but that might take some more time.

Fixes to existing projects

Some of the current projects need some changes to the Parsons problems and the solution code. It’s been a bit of a frustration of mine that I haven’t been able to get back around to fixing these so these are on the list to be improved and fixed.

Allowing you to create your own projects

It is working and has been for a while, but it needs some tweaks to the UI before it’s ready for you to use. However, I think that for some of you this will be a really useful tool. Got a small programming task that you want your students to complete but it isn’t available. Make it yourself.

Fixes to account system

I have a small update in the works to allow teachers to share classes, and once this has been tested it will be rolled out shortly.

However, I do want to make some tweaks and changes to the account system to make sure it is flexible and works for schools in the way I would expect.

I have always had the security and control of student data at the forefront of my mind, however this has come at a small cost in the accounts system.

As students are locked to a teacher, when that teacher is deleted or removed, so is all of that teachers class and student data.

In the short term I want to improve that and allow another teacher in the organisation to take that data. So when a teacher no longer works for a school or has a particular class they will be able to transfer that to another teacher (or of course delete it).

The account system still needs a bit of work and over the coming year I will keep coming back to it.

Any suggestions you would like to see let me know.

Tweaks to the student log in system

Students currently get assigned quite a complicated password. I am looking to provide some different options for log in so that passwords/options for logging in are made a little more simple.

…and that’s all for now

I have a lot more on my list but these are the things you can expect to improve in the coming weeks/few months. I will very much be focussing on content for a little while.

If I get through the list quicker then I will give more information on where we will go next.

Thanks for all the support. Please let me know if there is anything you would like to go to the top of the list!
